PWSCT donates to PW Mission Pledge, PW Global Exchange to Indonesia, SPJ near El Paso, BIG (Brookwood at Georgetown), and school kits for Church World Services at March, 2017 meeting
Synod of the Sun PW Coordinating Team met in Irving, TX on March 17-18. Our worship service was led by Joe Pat Nance, CRE, assisted by Sharon Curry, CRE. The offering of $735 was divided between the PW Mission Pledge and the PW Global Exchange to Indonesia to help bring Indonesian women to America next July to visit in different cities and to attend the Churchwide PW Gathering.
We voted to donate a total of $5,000 from our fund with the Texas Presbyterian Foundation. Of this $2,500 went to the PW Mission Pledge. $1,250 each went to: (1) SPJ (Siguiendo los Pasos de Jesus, Inc.), a mission to build houses and other needed buildings across the border from El Paso, Texas, and (2) BIG (Brookwood in Georgetown), a day vocational program in Georgetown, Texas where adults with special needs are challenged with meaningful work in various enterprises including pottery, baking, packaging, horticulture, café and retail support.
SCT members brought supplies to the meeting for school kits for Church World Services, and these were taken by SCT Treasurer Kathy White to the Presbyterian Disaster Assistance building at Ferncliff Conference Center in Arkansas.
Janet Theus reported on her USAME trip to San Francisco in September, 2016, and she is available to speak throughout the Synod at PW Gatherings. Contact Janet directly at moc.liamgnull@najtiripsdniw.
Judia Foreman (former PWSCT Moderator) is chairing a committee to update the PWSCT Handbook. Committee members are Joyce Batty, Anne Little, and Patti Nance. They hope to present their work at our summer meeting.
The next Synod PW Gathering will be July 25-27, 2019 at FPC/Tulsa, Oklahoma, with Rev. Katie Cummings (senior pastor at FPC/Bentonville, Arkansas) as key-note speaker.
