Tulsa Gathering Schedule for Each Day (includes schedules for workshops and tours)

Below is the schedule for the 2019 Synod of the Sun PW Gathering. Take a look to see what great things are in store. There will be 5 opportunities for workshops. You will be able to choose one activity for each time slot.

Thursday, July 25

12:00 noon First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, Tour 12:00-12:45

12:00-2:00 Cathedrals Tour

12:00-2:00** Historic Trolley Tour of Tulsa-2 hour Tour. **$20 fee separate from registration fee. Make check payable to Presbyterian Women Synod of the Sun and send to Sandra Hayes, 7603 East 21st Place, Tulsa, OK 74129-2423

12:45-1:30 First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, Tour

1:30 Registration and Mission tables/vendor tables open. Optional tours of Tulsa begin at 12 noon.

3:00-4:00 First workshop

  • Witnessing to the Promise: Intro to PW – Susan Jackson-Dowd
  • Successful PW Leadership Tips – Joyce Batty
  • Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Update- Rev. Dr.Laurie Kraus
  • Abundant Love Squeezed into a Family Sandwich – Dr. Judy Harris
  • The 10 Best (and Worst) Ways to Handle Grief or Please Don’t Let Me Say the Wrong Thing! – Diane Pennington

3:30-4:30 First Presbyterian Church of Tulsa, Tour

5:30 Dinner including presentation from the University of the Ozarks (table decorations by Cimarron Presbytery PW)

7:00 Opening worship and communion, led by Rev. Katie Cummings.

Rev. Katie Cummings received her Master of Divinity from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where she was a Jean Brown Scholar and recipient of the David L. Stitt Fellowship, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees. She holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin, Plan II Honors Program. She is pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree at Austin Seminary. Currently she serves as pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Bentonville, AR.

Friday, July 26

7:30 am Continental breakfast at FPC, Tulsa

8:30 Singing Abundantly

8:45      Plenary by Rev. Katie Cummings

9:45 Break with coffee, water, snacks

10:15 Bible study overview by Rev. Eugenia Gamble

Rev. Eugenia Gamble is a PCUSA pastor, who has served the church for more than 30 years. She is an author, speaker, preacher, and retreat leader, who loves nothing more than to help the Bible come alive in people’s lives. Her in-depth Biblical analysis, combined with great wit and humor, keep audiences highly involved. She has spoken at churches and events in 40 states and six foreign countries. She joined her first PW circle in seminary and says she would not have been able to negotiate life without her PW sisters!

12 noon Lunch and collection of offering for University of the Ozarks’ Food for Thought Garden (printed Gathering program booklets) and the Choctaw Agency Women’s Council (made the Gathering bags).

1:30-2:30 Second workshop

  • Women of Abrahamic Faiths – Sara Leavitt & Sarah Rana
  • The 10 Best (and Worst) Ways to Handle Grief or Please Don’t Let Me Say the Wrong Thing – Diane Pennington
  • Ministry of Presence: Being the Presence of Christ with Survivors of Disaster – Rev. Dr. Laurie Kraus
  • What’s New PW? – Susan Jackson-Dowd       

2:30-3:30 Break with iced tea, water, and snacks

3:30-4:30 Third workshop

  •    Women of Abrahamic Faiths – Sara Leavitt & Sarah Rana
